Easy Peasy

Poem I Could Write With my Eyes Closed

Cue the bruised
girl, laughing hysterically.  Cue the seedy
mary jane, a bikini bottom

with elastic
unraveling, a slippery diving board. Now
the drunk man, with dim

references to paternity. Now
a tree swinging up to meet her face.  Now
speeding tickets, his fight

with a policeman.  Now a mother,
a brother, spreading and thinning like spilt
water into the dusk-colored rooms.

A sad family and for some reason I am reminded of David Bowie’s rebel-rebel song.

I love this because of the music inside it. seedy, bikini, slippery, swinging, speeding, meet, the eee sounds pulling the eee thread through the poem and the words themselves erotically charged then the lowering of the eee to ummm in dusk. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks, Cathy — an interesting connection. I’m going to look that up.

Thanks, Ms. Radish — I worked hard on those sounds — glad you noticed.

Sorry I didn’t respond before — just figured out how to do comments!
